Why Safari Island Resort?
This exotic retreat is set on a private sliver of sand, with a tropical reef around the outside.
The Safari Island Resort is a proper slice of luxury. A swanky restaurant and a bar are set on stilted pavilions, and you can upgrade to a thatched over-water villa with a private sun deck and stairs that descend into a lagoon.
There’s a scuba school*, a palm-lined pool and a Thai spa* to sample at this place.
To get to Safari Island Resort, you’ll take a scenic seaplane transfer. It’s worth thinking about your luggage, too, as the hold allowance for seaplanes is 20kg, and 5kg for hand luggage. You’ll be charged extra at the airport if you go over the limit.
The Maldives’ natural beauty is in the spotlight here, so you might find that there aren’t balustrades or barriers around the beach rooms, water-bungalow terraces or public walkways, giving direct access to the sea.

The pool’s set on the widest part of the sandbar, and has palms and curvy wicker loungers ringed around it. Cloud-coloured sands are just a couple of steps away, and the private island setting means you’ll have loads of room to spread out.
The pool here comes with loungers, parasols and its own pool bar.
The stilted Lagoon Restaurant lays out a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s a mix of Maldivian and international dishes, and practically every table comes with a sea view. There are live-cooking stations and theme nights, too. A trio of bars cover daytime and evening tipples. Cross one of the over-water walkways to reach Palm Bar, which set in a sea-view pavilion. The Sun Down Bar’s set in the best spot for dusk-time vistas, and there’s another bar by the pool.

The hotel’s main restaurant floats over the lagoon. You can expect a mix of local and international dishes here, as well as show cooking and themed nights.

This bar floats above the water next to the main restaurant. Plus, there’s a happy hour here between 6pm and 7.30pm.
